common skincare ingredients, you really should be avoiding

Hey guys ūüôā

I hope you’re all doing lovely today, as i’m sure that you are ūüôā

Recently I was helping a friend pick out skin care products for her new skincare routine, and I realized that there are some ingredients that you should NEVER use on your skin, and they seem to be in most skincare products…looking at the ingredients list could be a nightmare, all the ingredient names sound like they could also be the name of a dinosaur, or written in a completely new language. Personally, I think these ingredients should be banned for good, but since they are not, I’m just going to do what I can and inform those of you who read my blog what you should stay away from next time you’re looking for new products. These are not the ONLY products you should avoid, but I found them to be the 5 most important. (I try not to completely overwhelm you with information)

1. Triclosan– This is used mostly in acne products, but also in other antibacterial products like toothpaste or deodorant. This will actually build up your immunity and make the bacteria resistant to antibacterial anything. Not a good idea! not only are there also some good bacteria in your skin, that you’d like to keep, you also want to be able to respond to things that are anti bacterial, if you really need it, like when you’re sick. This stuff kills it all, and builds up an unhealthy immunity.

exactly Miley..

2. Parabens– There is actually no solid¬†research that states parabens¬†are harmful, I guess it’s more a personal risk thing. It has been studied, and studies show that it imitates estrogen. This could throw off your hormonal balance and has been found in breast cancer tumors. It also is said to possibly interfere with “male reproductive functions”. I honestly wouldn’t risk it, or recommend it to anyone else. These are tricky because they aren’t always labeled

3. Siloxanes– This is something you definitely need to beware of. Anything that ends in ¬†‘methicone’ or ‘siloxane’ needs to be taken out of your skin care routine. ¬†It’s used to moisten your skin and make it feel smooth, but it’s also the same ingreident used to repel water of the windshield of your car and in building sealants… Do you really want to put that on your face?! I doubt it.

Mr. Carey says it all.

4. Formaldehyde- releasing preservatives… what?¬†I bet most of you didn’t think you’d have formaldehyde on your skin.. at least not while you were still alive, huh? The truth is, it’s in a LOT of skincare products, and it’s often not listed as formaldehyde. It is the reason that so many skin care products have no expiration¬†date.. they’re packed with preservatives, that are terrible for your skin.

5. Fragrance – This one is tricky because it sounds harmless. Fragrance is actually what a lot of these harmful products could be hidden under. Calling them fragrance is how they still sell these products because it doesn’t sound like it’d be dangerous. Whenever possible, go with something that ‘Fragrance free’ it’ll definitely be your safest bet.

The fact that most of these ingredients SOUND scary, should make you turn away from these products, but in the event that it doesn’t, please remember this.. your skin is organ.. ¬†I think most people forget that. It has to be taken care of. 60% of ANY thing you put on your skin, gets absorbed into your blood stream in less then a minute.

Some of these products are safe in very low quantities, but personally, I wouldn’t risk it. Just know what you’re putting on your skin and be so careful about it!

Thanks all for reading, and as always, if there are any questions, feel free to contact me ūüôā
