What sleeping with makeup is doing to your skin

We’ve all had a night that was just a little too long, and we just want to crawl into beds and sleep without even changing our clothes, let alone wash our faces!

I’ve scared myself enough to never go to bed without washing my face, even if I didn’t wear makeup that day. I’ve even gone so far as to take the makeup off my best friends face when she was too “tipsy” to do it herself.

Here’s what happens:

Let me start by saying this, your face is generally not covered the way most of your body is by wearing clothes. Your face is exposed to all the elements, collecting all of the dirt, dust, pollen and even mold that is in the air at any given time. This comprises the integrity of the skin barrier and makes you more susceptible to infection.

It will enlarge your pores. Your makeup, will clog your pores and trap all that dirt into your skin. Once your collagen production slows down, your pores won’t snap back anymore and you’ll be able to see how large they are. Don’t stretch out your pores!

You’re causing long term problems like eczema. When you leave your face makeup on. Along with clogging your pores, the long term problems are worse. If you’re inner lazy girl tries to put face creams on over your half removed makeup, you’re just wasting product. These creams can’t penetrate your skin through the build up of makeup .

You’re asking for an eye infection. The longer you have anything on your eyes, the more likely you are to get a sty. Eyeliner, and mascara tubes are breeding grounds for bacteria. When you leave them on your eye for 24 hours, your basically asking for a minor eye infection.

It will dull your skin. We shed millions of skin cells every day. If you’re not washing them away, they’re getting trapped under your makeup and in your pores. This will make your skin look grayish and have a lackluster appearance.. Nobody wants that look!

For reasons I’m entirely unsure of, not washing your face has become a celebrity trend, people like lady gaga are admitting that they sleep in their makeup every night. While her skin looks pretty now, let’s check back in 10 years and see if her skin is naturally beautiful.

Even if your complexion is crystal clear right now, you’re doing long term damage by not washing your face. Even if you don’t want the 12 step routine a lot of skincare addicts have… for the love of collagen please remove your makeup!

PREACH! Ever since I took modeling classes I make the effort of taking off my makeup even if just with a makeup removing wipe, even if I am exhausted and half asleep. I think I’ve fallen asleep with minimal makeup less than a a handful of times and I wake up freaking out haha I remember they told us it would give us wrinkles and acne

Exactly!! Even if you don’t give your face a full wash, you definitely need to remove that makeup. We’ve all had those nights! haha

Great post! Even if I feel like a corpse, I still manage to push myself and remove my makeup at night, simply because I have extremely sensitive skin, and wearing makeup for such a long time will completely irritate it 🙁
I’d love it if you’d stop by my blog and check out my latest post: https://macandmetallica.wordpress.com
